Common Acne Myths
There are hundreds of thousands of teenagers and adults around the world who are fighting acne at the moment so there are a huge number of different myths floating around about it. Many of these are completely untrue and are actually bad advice, so in this article I’ll be going through a few of them so that you don’t get fooled anymore!
Probably the most common of all the acne myths is that it is caused by eating fatty foods and especially chocolate. There isn’t any real evidence that this is the case so you shouldn’t worry about eating chocolate for acne - although it is probably best to avoid eating large quantities for your general health.
Some people do find that their acne becomes worse when they eat a certain food so keep an eye out for patterns to see whether there is anything in your diet that is causing it.
Some people also think that if you go out and get a good tan it will help acne. This one is understandable because if you get a tan the acne is less likely to show up. However the problem is that you aren’t solving the problem you are just hiding it. Tanning also has its own health risks so it isn’t advisable.
In fact, if you get a tan it may cause you to get irritated skin which can cause you to have more acne in the future as well as other problems such as skin cancer of course. Also, acne isn’t caused by not washing your skin. It isn’t caused by dirt on the skin so you shouldn’t think that washing your skin more will get rid of spots. In fact, if you wash your skin too much you may cause irritation of the skin and hence more breakouts. Don’t scrub too hard or you could cause many more problems than you had originally.
